Position Overview

The Haskayne School of Business in conjunction with Development & Alumni Engagement is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Associate Director, Alumni Engagement.

Reporting to the Director of Development, Haskayne School of Business, the Associate Director of Alumni Engagement is a key member of the Haskayne School of Business development and alumni engagement team. This position leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive alumni relations program in the Haskayne School of Business and advises senior leadership within the faculty on best practices and strategic alumni relations programming. The Associate Director works closely with the Haskayne School of Business Development and Communications teams to align alumni relations strategies with faculty advancement goals, and with staff in the University of Calgary Alumni office to integrate the Haskayne School of Business alumni relations strategy with the University's Alumni Strategy. The Associate Director helps define and shape a new level of sustainable alumni engagement within the Haskayne School of Business and leads the development of an impact-focused alumni program that benefits alumni and the University.

Hours of employment for this position are standard however some evening and weekend work is required

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

PARTNERSHIPS AND RECRUITMENT

  • Develop and execute long-term and annual alumni relations plans for the Haskayne School of Business, integrated with the University of Calgary Alumni Strategy
  • Act as a senior advisor and strategist to the Dean, Department Heads, and faculty and staff on all alumni relations matters within the Haskayne School of Business
  • Actively map common objectives in collaboration with Haskayne School of Business advancement teams (development, marketing and communications) and with Alumni Relations
  • Increase knowledge of Haskayne School of Business alumni of influence through dedicated data collection and stewardship
  • Cultivate relationships with notable alumni and engage them in meaningful roles within the Haskayne School of Business and the University
  • Lead the creation and facilitation of the Haskayne School of Business Alumni Advisory Council
  • Identify Haskayne School of Business communities of interest and potentially high-impact networks and build engagement strategies for these groups
  • Improve ties to existing chapters and alumni communities

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

  • Develop a comprehensive strategy for Haskayne School of Business alumni programs and services, integrated with the University of Calgary Alumni Strategy
  • Identify and prioritize faculty-based programs 'intellectual programming' that may be offered to Haskayne School of Business and other alumni; lead and collaborate with multi-disciplinary groups on effective program delivery
  • Integrate Haskayne School of Business with University wide regional alumni programming; develop plans to engage the Dean, faculty members and notable alumni in regional programs
  • Review Haskayne School of Business alumni recognition programs and align with university-wide alumni recognition
  • Review and refine business services and customer service standards for Haskayne School of Business alumni and align with university-wide approaches
  • Develop processes for Haskayne School of Business alumni volunteer engagement that support the University of Calgary alumni volunteer program plan

MANAGEMENT AND SUPERVISION

  • Develop and manage annual budget for alumni relations within the Haskayne School of Business
  • Responsible as the Department ID budget holder; develop and prepare budget projections for ongoing development and expansion activities, business process approval in PeopleSoft, etc.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to staff to ensure efficient and high quality service; this includes recruiting the right people, mentoring/training, establishing clear expectations, and performance management
  • Report to Manager duties such as time approval, initiation of transactions, annual performance reviews, etc.
  • Hire, train and supervise student staff for various support roles (e.g. database updates, event support)

MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

  • Ensure effective, consistent and meaningful communications with Haskayne School of Business alumni
  • Increase use of digital and e-customized communications to facilitate interactive communications with, and amongst, alumni
  • Increase storytelling about Haskayne School of Business alumni in University communications

PERFORMANCE AND MARKET RESEARCH

  • Implement common program assessment tools for alumni relations
  • Incorporate findings from program assessment into faculty-based alumni programs
  • Ensure consistent and accurate alumni data collection

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • University degree in business, communications, non-profit management or other related field
  • Five to seven years of alumni relations experience, with proven volunteer leadership abilities, and awareness of alumni relations best practices at a national level
  • Experience in strategic planning and developing and executing large-scale projects
  • Outstanding communication and inter-personal skills and ability to develop positive relationships at any level
  • Experience managing staff, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Experience in program development, delivery, and management
  • Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Experience in building consensus and influencing teams made up of senior organizational leaders, peers and individuals that do not have direct reporting relationships
  • Must be flexible and have some ability to work outside of normal business hours
  • An understanding of, and a passion for, working within a performance management culture
  • Excellent attention to detail
