Position Overview

Annual Giving within Development & Alumni Engagement is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Associate Director, Annual Giving for approximately 2 years.

The Associate Director of Annual Giving reports to the Director of Annual Giving and works closely with the Development and Alumni Engagement team. The Associate Director is accountable for advancing specific annual giving initiatives, and for developing and implementing a comprehensive Stewardship plan for the Office of Annual Giving.

The main goal of the Associate Director of Annual Giving is to build connectivity and philanthropic intent with various prospect and donor groups, and ensure stewardship strategies are timely implemented. In close consultation and planning with the Director of Annual Giving, the Associate Director of Annual Giving implements the strategic plan and budget for: Faculty and staff giving, commemorative and tribute endeavours; eSolicitations, and overall digital initiatives; stewardship for the Office of Annual Giving. While keeping current with trends in the industry, directs maintenance of Annual Giving online presence, and all weekly stewardship to meet the overall development plan.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Strategic Planning

  • Participation in developing strategic plans
  • Recommend changes and improvements to processes, objectives, and goals based on evaluation of completed programs to dramatically increase engagement and participation, maximize and ensure most effective and efficient use of resources

Collaboration

  • Involve high-level of collaboration with both internal department partners and broader university partners to identify and integrate resources in order to accomplish strategic goals and objectives
  • Plan and execute stewardship in collaboration with the Stewardship team
  • Key partnerships:
    • Alumni Engagement and Partnerships
    • Campaign
    • Stewardship and Donor Relations
    • Strategic Events and Communications
    • Data
    • Gift Processing/Gift Compliance

Administration

  • Articulate goals and timelines
  • Has sound data management and segmentation skills, experience working with Raiser's Edge and ability to analyze data to ensure maximum results
  • Analyze segment, group, program metrics and report to Director
  • Provide creative direction to designers and writers
  • Provide necessary documentation and follow-up to donors, volunteers and internal contacts and input all activity in database
  • Monitor and analyze program metrics, including engagement activity
  • Ensure that proper stewardship occurs
  • Responsible for duties assigned to supervised staff (1-Annual Giving Coordinator)
  • Optimize the use of technology including social media for marketing, communications and data reporting and analysis
  • Assist in the development of dashboards and metrics which provide quantitative analysis of program outcomes
  • In the absence of the Director of Annual Giving, assume the decision-making responsibilities under the supervision of the Associate Vice President of Alumni Engagement

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired
  • 3 years of experience in development or experience in marketing, sales or public relations, supplemented by experience as an employee for a not-for-profit institution
  • Project coordination/management experience
  • Superior communications skills, including writing and presentation skills, as well as ability to present before a group
  • Event management experience an asset
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong knowledge of Raiser's Edge an asset
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Suite software
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in annual giving
